Walk-In Closets in Nairobi: Planned Around What You Own

A walk-in is a room, not a big wardrobe

The difference is that you are inside it, which changes three things people rarely plan for: circulation, light and air.

Circulation. You need roughly 900mm of clear floor to stand and turn while a drawer is open. A closet that looks generous on a drawing becomes unusable when both sides are fitted out to the maximum.

Light. A windowless closet needs proper lighting at the hanging rail, not a single ceiling fitting that puts your own shadow on everything you are looking at.

Air. This is the Nairobi-specific one. A sealed closet with no ventilation and damp clothing put away after the long rains will develop a smell and eventually mildew. Ventilation is designed in, not added later.

Configuration follows an inventory

We ask clients to actually count: metres of long hanging, metres of short hanging, folded items, shoes, bags, suitcases. It feels pedantic and it is the difference between a closet that works and one where everything ends up on the floor because there is nowhere sensible for it.

Typical arrangements

Single-sided in a narrow room, with a full-height run on one wall and clear circulation. Double-sided where the room is at least 2.4m wide. U-shaped in a dedicated dressing room, which is what most Karen, Runda and Kitisuru masters can accommodate.

Pricing

Walk-in closets are quoted per room rather than per running foot, because the cost is driven by internal configuration (drawer banks, pull-outs, glazed fronts) rather than by frontage. Two closets of identical size can differ substantially, and the difference is all on the inside.
